CHAPTER 1

The Genealogy of Adam

1Adam, Seth, Enosh, 2Kenan, Mahalalel, Jered, 3Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, 4Noah, Shem, Ham, Japheth. 5The sons of Japheth -- Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. 6And the sons of Gomer -- Ashchenaz and Riphath, and Togarmah. 7And the sons of Javan -- Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim and Dodanim. 8And the sons of Ham -- Cush, and Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. 9And the sons of Cush -- Seba, and Havilah, and Sabta, and Raamah, and Sabtecha. And the sons of Raama -- Sheba and Dedan. 10And Cush procreated   Nimrod -- this one began   to be a giant on the earth. 11  Mizraim procreated the Ludim,   the Anamim, and the Lehabim,   the Naphuhim 12And the Pathrusim, and the Casluhim from where [²came forth ³from there ¹the Philistines], and the Caphthorim. 13And Canaan procreated   Sidon   his firstborn, and   Heth. 14And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite, 15and the Hivite, and the Archite, and the Sinite, 16and the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite. 17The sons of Shem -- Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram, and Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Meshech. 18And Arphaxad procreated   Cainan, and Cainan procreated   Shelah, and Shelah procreated   Eber. 19And to  Eber [³were procreated ¹two ²sons]. The name to the one was Peleg; for in   his days [³was portioned ¹the ²earth]. And the name to  his brother was Joktan. 20And Joktan procreated   Almodad, and   Sheleph, and   Hazarmaveth, and   Jerah, 21and   Hadoram, and   Uzal, and   Diklah, 22and   Ebal, and   Abimael, and   Sheba, 23and   Ophir, and   Havilah, and   Jobab. All these are sons of Joktan. 24Shem, Arphaxad, Shelah, 25Eber, Peleg, Reu, 26Serug, Nahor, Terah, 27Abram -- he was  Abraham. 28Sons of Abraham -- Isaac and Ishmael. 29These are    their genealogies. First-born of Ishmael -- Nebaioth, and Kedar, and Adbeel and Mibsam, 30Mishma and Dumah, Massa, Hadad and Tema, 31Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. These are the sons of Ishmael. 32And sons of Keturah, concubine of Abraham -- and she bore   Zimran, and   Jokshan, and Medan and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah. And the sons of Jokshan -- Sheba and Dedan. 33And the sons of Midian -- Ephah, and Epher, and Henoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were sons of Keturah. 34And Abraham procreated   Isaac. The sons of Isaac -- Esau and Israel. 35The sons of Esau -- Eliphaz, and Reuel, and Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah. 36The sons of Eliphaz -- Teman, and Omar, Zephi, and Gatam, Kenaz; and by Timna, and Amalek. 37And the sons of Reuel -- Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. 38And the sons of Seir -- Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah, and Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan. 39And the sons of Lotan -- Hori, and Honam; and the sister of Lotan -- Timna. 40The sons of Shobal -- Alian, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shephi, and Onam. And the sons of Zibeon -- Ajah and Anah. 41The sons of Anah -- Dishon. And the sons of Dishon. And the sons of Dishon -- Amram, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran. 42And the sons of Ezer -- Bilhan and Zavan and Jakan. The sons of Dishan -- Uz and Aran. 43And these are  the kings, the ones reigning in the land of Edom before   [²reigned ¹a king] among the sons of Israel. Bela son of Beor, and the name   of his city was Dinhabah. 44And Bela died, and reigned instead of him, Jobab son of Zerah of Bozrah. 45And Jobab died, and reigned instead of him Husham of the land of the Temanites. 46And Husham died, and reigned instead of him, Hadad son of Bedad, the one striking Midian in the field of Moab. And the name   of his city was Avith. 47And Hadad died, and reigned instead of him, Samlah of Masrekah. 48And Samlah died, and reigned instead of him, Shaul of Rehoboth of the river. 49And Shaul died, and reigned instead of him, Baal-hanan son of Achbor. 50And Baal-hanan died, and reigned instead of him, Hadad. And the name   of his city was Pai. And the name   of his wife was Mehetabel, daughter of Matred, daughter of Mezahab. 51And Hadad died. And [³were ¹The governors ²of Edom] -- governor Timnah, governor Aliah, governor Jetheth, 52governor Aholibamah, governor Elah, governor Pinon, 53governor Kenaz, governor Teman, governor Mibzar, 54governor Magdiel, governor Iram. These were  the governors of Edom.
